SPACE-O General Assembly in Norrkoping. Sweden

The SPACE-O General Assembly was hosted by the  Swedish Meteorological and Hydrological Institute (SMHI) headquarters in Norrkoping, Sweden on November 9-10th, 2017. The aim was for the consortium members to provide updates on progress and strategize in developing the business potential of SPACE-O. Members of the external board of experts –Ms. Ana Camacho (Aguas do Vouga) and Mr. Vittorio Brando (CNR, ISAC)– were also invited to join the discussions and provide advice on the way forward.

World Water Week

26 – 31 August, 2018

World Water Week is the annual focal point for the globe’s water issues. It is organized by SIWI. In 2018, World Water Week will address the theme “Water, ecosystems and human development”. In 2017, over 3,300 individuals and around 380 convening organizations from 135 countries participated in the Week.

Experts, practitioners, decision-makers, business innovators and young professionals from a range of sectors and countries come to Stockholm to network, exchange ideas, foster new thinking and develop solutions to the most pressing water-related challenges of today. We believe water is key to our future prosperity, and that together, we can achieve a water wise world.

Water crises, food crises, failure to mitigate and adapt to climate change. No, these are not catastrophic scenarios, they are part of our reality. In the World Economic Forum’s Global Risks Report 2018, the water crises rank for the 7th consecutive year among the top 5 global societal risks in terms of impact.

Water Innovation Europe is returning for its 2018 edition under the theme ‘The road towards a water-smart society: Overcoming the water challenges of the future’ on 13& 14 June 2018 in Brussels to shed light on how Europe can ensure availability of water for urban, agricultural, and industrial use and deal with the risks of increasing water scarcity, pollution of fresh water sources, and impacts of climate change.

  •  How has Europe responded thus far to the water crises?

  • What are the threats and the opportunities?

  • Does the European Water industry interact sufficiently with other sectoral interests?

  • What role can European knowledge, research, and innovative solutions play in addressing the water crises both in Europe and beyond?

  • Do we need a ‘Water Mission’ under FP9? If so, how should it look like?

The next years will be important for the water sector. Be among the ones that will play an active part.

Join Water Innovation Europe 2018!

ICT 2018 will take place in Vienna on 4-6 December 2018. This research and innovation event will focus on the European Union’s priorities in the digital transformation of society and industry. It will present an opportunity for the people involved in this transformation to share their experience and vision of Europe in the digital age. As member of the ICT4Water cluster, SPACE-O will be present at this event.

ICT2018 Agenda:

Exhibition stand with ICT4Water Cluster on 5 December, with following schedule:

  • 10:30-11:30
  • 12:30-13:30
  • 14:30-15:30
  • 15:30-16:30

ICT2018 Conference presentation, 6 December:

Thematic focus of the presentation: Technological innovation is instrumental in addressing our increasingly complex and multidisciplinary water challenges as to ensure sustainability while supporting economic growth. Space technology is part of promoting and supporting innovation by providing environmental information which can be used to improve preparedness and planning by water utilities and other end users.

We are looking forward to engage in discussions on the future role of ICT for water and to present SPACE-O tools to a wide audience!

ICT4WATER first event of 2018 is on Wednesday 13 June 2018, during Water Innovation Europe 2018. The Executive Agency for SMEs (EASME) B2.1,  in collaboration with DG CONNECT Smart Mobility and Living, the European Water Technology Platform (WssTP) and the ICT4Water cluster will jointly organize the open workshop “Smart water services: Bridging the digital and the physical world”.

During the event we will:

·          Present (up-coming) cluster activities and ”kick-start” the follow-up of the cluster’s Action Plan;

·          discuss and advance in the definition of water-value chains;

·          discuss on market uptake of ICT solutions and exploitation during and after project completion;

·          promote the Action Plan and engage the participants in the implementation;

·          get in contact with new members and projects.

remote sensing technologies supporting
sustainable development and natural
resource management

Firenze
4 – 6 July 2018

Hosted by the University of Florence, the conference is an important event to stimulate the cooperation between research institutions, remote sensing users and industry.

AIT2018 is a meeting point between for the different disciplines related to RS technologies and between research and industry. For researchers the AIT2018 is an important opportunity to present recent advancements to a vast and trans-disciplinary audience. For the industry this is a great occasion for showing recent products and services useful to the Remote Sensing community. Last but not least for decision makers in the field of land/water/urban management, conservation, natural resource management and territorial planning AIT2018 is the key event for presenting their experiences and to update their knowledge in the field of Remote Sensing.

Space O will be present in the poster session with a presentation.
